It could be too late.! But I had the exact same problem and here is how I managed to solve it:

Connect Irig 2 To Pc

  1. Unplug iRIG from computer.
  2. Plug headphones with mic that you know previously your computer recognises no problem to the iRIG.
  3. Plug iRIG with headphones and mic to computer.
  4. Unplug headphones from iRIG (if you want to..)

Apr 08, 2011  I have the iRig and while it's overpriced (I paid $35), what Apple accessory isn't?:p Anyway, it works good, but it is a bit noisy. You'll be using the noisegate in Garageband to deal with that. You wouldn't use this in a studio setting, but if you just want to play with amp modeling.

Voila!.. It should now have been perfectly recognised by the computer via the headphone's mic and it will now work even if you unplug the headphones from it.

If the Support for Apple iPhone headset with remote and microphone is missing, you cannot use the iRig 2 as an input splitter.
  5. The “FX” setting is for playing the guitar through Garageband’s interface. In other words, it sends the processed signal from the software, in this case, Garageband, to the iRig HD 2. This means we can use the computer/Garageband as the amplifier/pedal effects.
